Friday, while up in Park City I got a call from someone during the meeting. I didn't recognize the number so ignored it. My phone started buzzing again 10 minutes later so I thought I had better check the number. I could not hear very well and asked her to repeat what she was saying. I thought at first it was a wrong number but then I understood her to say her name was Kaja. I had no idea she was back in the U.S.
Kaja was 10 years old when I taught she and her sister on my mission in Germany. They are from Darmstadt, which was my last city before I came home. Both were baptized as members. Of course the discussions were not written for children so I had one day decided to draw a picture and use a road and a gas station and who knows what else to draw a comparison with the gospel. Of course the road was the direction or path and the gas station you had to fill up with spiritual knowledge. Anyway, it seemed to help in teaching them. Kaja called to invite me to her baby shower Saturday. While there she mentioned that she had kept my drawings. She later served a mission on temple square in SLC. She and her husband were living in England last year and Kaja taught at the London MTC. She said that she had shown the drawings to the missionaries there. Now those that know me, know I am not an artist. She is just an amazing woman and so happy that she has kept in contact with me over the years. I'm so glad to see her development. She is going to make a wonderful mother. Unfortunately, her sister has fallen away.
What I remember from teaching them was first how intelligent they were. It was very evident as children. Kaja is doing graduate work at BYU and Anne Marie went to Oxford and also did grad work. But it was amazing that the Spririt teaches people of all ages and how they could understand at such a young age the gospel of Jesus Christ.
